The Sustainability Centre
The Sustainability Centre teaches all aspects of living a sustainable lifestyle. We are situated in a beautiful 55 acre site on top of the South Downs, 3 miles south of the village of East Meon. Surrounded by woodland and natural chalk downland, the Centre is a place of inspiration and learning for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Facilities include the Visitor Centre which has information and displays covering a range of sustainability issues, the Wetherdown Eco-Hostel which provides accommodation for up to 34 people, a fully equiped conference room with space for 40 people and a variety of outdoor working spaces. The eco-hostel has recently been re-furbished and now boasts an integrated photo-voltaic roof and a wood-chip biomass boiler. It has its own kitchen, sitting room, drying room, secure bike storage and excellent views of the surrounding area. Elsewhere on site we have solar water heating panels to supply hot water and composting loos. We offer a wide range of practical workshops, courses and training events which include hedge laying, shingle making, wattle and daub, cob building, green woodworking and bio-fuel conversion for cars. We also provide a 5 day residential course for school groups and a single day programme. For businesses and other organisations we offer a series of Team-Building courses. In addition to specific courses and events, we have strong ongoing links with people in our local community who regularly volunteer at the Centre. We also enable young people from our local secondary school to broaden their education through getting involved with practical work on site. You can visit the Centre 7 days a week from 10am-4pm and there is a cafe open at the weekends. We look forward to seeing you! For more information...
