Commonwork
Commonwork is a group of educational charities and rural enterprises working towards sustainable solutions in farming, the environment and education. We are based at Bore Place in the low Weald of Kent where we run an organic dairy farm, a conference and study centre and education programmes for schools and community groups.
The organic dairy farm is at the core of Commonwork because it brings together several key areas of life – business, the environment, education and animal welfare. The dairy farm was established in 1977 and became fully organic in 2000. In addition to providing milk and some meat products this element of Commonwork offers a wide range of educational opportunities for people of all ages. Around the farm we have developed an extensive garden area, woodland and a 2.5 mile Field Trail. Through our Environment Programme we utilise this unique outdoor resource to enable people to strengthen their links with the land through work opportunities (paid/voluntary) and educational activities. Activites on offer include food and farming, environmental arts, green woodworking, pond dips, willow work, hedgelaying, nightwalks, waste audits and brickmaking. We have used our own bricks to make a walled garden and other structures around the site. We also have an organic vegetable plot and chickens which are cared for by students with disabilities and provide for our study centre kitchen which cooks over 5,000 meals each year for our visitors. We work with a wide range of groups from the local community and with our Conference and Study Centre we can accomodate up to 46 residents and up to 100 people for daytime use. We hold seasonal events for the public including an annual summer open day. For more details check out our website below. For more information...
