Goblin Combe Environment Centre is based within 130 acres of woodland in Cleeve, North Somerset, and provides learning and training opportunities to all, tailoring activities to both group and individual needs.

Goblin Combe is a wooded limestone gorge, of which half is a Site of Special Scientific Interest - home to dormice, greater horseshoe bats, and numerous rare butterflies. The combe contains an Iron Age Settlement and a Scheduled Ancient Monument which was purchased in 2003 through support from the Aggregate Levy Sustainability Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund to improve nature conservation, community involvement and public access.

The Centre’s base is in an old school house, a Grade II listed Victorian building that provides a focal point for learning and administrative activities. Opened in 2007, the Lodge is our brand new residential facility and an excellent teaching environment in itself. Providing accommodation for 38 people it is a timber building which harvests rainwater to be used for toilet flushing and has a biomass heating system. Situated on our campsite field, there is also space for up to 60 tents and a cottage providing catering facilities.

The Environment Centre, together with the surrounding woodland, provides a wonderful opportunity for youth and community groups to experience living and learning in the natural environment. Activities on offer include anything from owl prowls, fungal forays and teddy bear picnics, to bushcraft activities such as cooking in the woods, fire lighting, team building activites and shelter building.

We run programmes for groups with varying needs including adult mental health service users, drugs and alcohol rehabilitation clients, and adults and children with learning difficulties. We also have had groups such as young offenders and those who are socially excluded. If you would like to find out more about us, come along to one of our open days or simply give us a ring or e-mail below.
