Menter Y Felin Uchaf
Felin Uchaf is an Educational Centre for exploring ways of living and working in Creative Partnership, with each other and our Environment.
Located towards the end of the Lleyn Peninsula, near to the village of Rhoshirwaun, Felin Uchaf is focussed on transforming an old farm house and its surrounding land into a Working, Healing, Learning Centre. We have almost completed construction of a traditional iron-age roundhouse which will play a key role in the development of the Centre. Other construction projects on the go include the creation of timber framed barns for our animals, an earth-mound observatory, a seed building and a Centre for Living Arts Science.
We grow our own vegetables, fruit and herbs biodynamically and are in the process of creating an orchard to house the Welsh National Fruit Collection. Alongside the art of growing food we actively use and promote traditional rural crafts throughout all aspects of our work. We are creating an Ancient Technology Site around the Roundhouse, where people will forge bronze and iron tools, weave on a traditional loom and make pottery.
We are enhancing the biodiversity of the site with a range of activities including the creation of a Community Woodland made up of 15,000 trees planted by volunteers. We are developing a wetland area adjacent to the river Daron which includes a Willow Coppice bed to provide material for craft activities and eventually fuel for biomass power. Elsewhere on site we have wild-flower meadows which together with the other habitats offer home to over 150 different plant species.
We currently work with a wide range of different groups and organisations from all sectors of the community inlduding schools, the voluntary sector, public bodies and the local business community. We welcome volunteers and have a regular programme of workshops and events. Look on our website for more details or give us a ring.
