We are a collective of 10 adults and 5 children working towards sustainability who wish to share their aim with others. We take care of the land, recycle and conserve resources, garden and farm organically and are off the grid for electricity and water. Being a community is a large part of what we do. To sum up the rest; we are striving towards a life in which our footprints are as light as they can be.

Community life is centered around the farm yard. Each person/family has a private living space either in the farm house or in one of the converted out-buildings.
In the last couple of years we have formed a housing coop to lease the buildings and land, and a limited company to manage our business/farming activities and to communicate more clearly with official bodies.

Much of what we eat is grown or reared on the farm. We have two garden areas where we grow a wide range of vegetables, fruit and herbs. Our horses assist us in pulling heavy loads and other heavy work. Goats are reared primarily for milk, chickens supply eggs and ducks keep slugs and other pests out of the gardens. We do not raise animals directly for meat, but occassionally some members will harvest an excess of goats or cockerels.

We also lease 85 acres of land adjacent to the farm, of which 20 acres is mature woodland and recently purchased another 6.6 acres of broadleaf woodland. Having such a large area of wooded land makes Brithdir Mawr a relatively special place when compared to the intensively farmed landscape to the North and East. We also make us of this resource for fuel, construction and craft purposes.

If you want to visit us there are several options. We offer Residential Courses, Short or Long term Volunteer opportunities, a Summer Camp and general camping in August. Please check out the website or give us a call for more details.
