Steward Community Woodland
We are running a unique and innovotive permaculture project in a woodland on Dartmoor in order to demonstrate how it is possible to integrate conservation woodland managment with organic growing, traditional skills and positive impact sustainable living.
Since moving onto the site in 2000 we have developed a thriving community here whilst improving the biodiversity and quality of the woodland. We live in bender-style and timber frame dwellings, generate renewable energy and have a policy of minimising fossil fuels. We spend our time gardening, coppicing, conifer felling, native tree planting, maintaining and improving our dwellings and infrastructure, home educating, running courses on outreach and on working for social change. We currently have planning permission to be here and continue the project. We welcome visitors - volunteers and those on a WHOOF basis. We also offer guided tours of the Woodland for those who are interested. Please contact us first to arrange a visit or have a look at our website to find out more. For more information...
