The Woodland Enterprise Centre
Weald Woodnet is an educational charity promoting use of local wood in construction, and for renewable energy. Timber is one of the UK's biggest imports, yet at the same time many of our native woodlands are suffering from neglect. Sustainable management of our woodlands is a key area in meeting our environmental obligations at a local and national level. Timber is a renewable resource which is capable of producing a wide range of products, from fuel to fine furniture.
Woodnet is based at the Woodland Enterprise Centre which is itself a demonstration of use of coppice wood in a modern gridshell building using finger-jointed and laminated timbers sourced from local woodlands. The under floor central heating system uses wood chip made from local off-cuts and coppice residues. Representatives from Woodland Owners, local timber industry, rural training establishments and local authorities set up the Woodland Enterprise Centre to provide rural workspace, and a venue for training, education and research into sustainable management of woodland to meet contemporary needs. The Woodland Enterprise Centre has now completed the first phase of its construction and provides an excellent venue for meetings, workshops, conferences and commercial offices. We work with a wide range of groups including local schools, businesses, public bodies and individuals. For more information....
