Ramsey Heights Countryside Classroom is part of a nature reserve that stands on the site of a brick and tile works, which operated using the local clay until the First World War. Owned and managed by The Wildlife Trust for over 25 years, the reserve contains habitats ranging from open water and marsh, to open grassland, bushes and copses of mature trees. The Classroom itself has been created by renovating the old fuel store.

Located in the Huntingdonshire Fens, four miles from Ramsey, the Classroom aims to set a good example to all visitors in environmental good practice. Our electricity for lighting comes from photovoltaic (solar) panels and wind generators. The furniture is largely reclaimed, while used paper is recycled and visitors are encouraged to compost fruit remains in the compost bins on site. "Nifty Newt" notices around the buildings draw visitors attention to these and other environmental actions.

Ramsey Heights Nature Reserve is open to the public at all times (The Trust asks that dogs are on a lead at all times). With a permanent Centre Manager on site, there is a rich variety of educational opportunities for people of all ages including, school visits, Really Wild Days Out, 6th Form fieldwork, project work for higher/further education and teacher training.

We have good links with the local community and regular activities and events involvoing local youth groups, children and adult volunteers. Come and join in!
